Canal House Day Nursery
“Because every child deserves a home away from home”
We strive to support all childrens’ innate love of learning with highly qualified staff, equipment and stimulating environments. We believe it is highly important to incorporate health, fitness and maintaining and recycling the environment into every day use to allow a balanced and insightful upbringing.
Hi, I’m Vikki, our new Forest School Leader. I have over 15 years experience of teaching and learning within a primary school. I have a passion for nature and love working outside in the fresh air with children, animals and adults alike. Consequently, my sessions are full of exciting activities to explore the awe and wonder of the natural world. I hope to help the children in our Forest School to develop confidence, resilience, independence and responsibility. From singing under trees to swinging on climbing ropes, I aim to help spark curiosity and imagination within nature and feel the joy in being outside; getting muddy, smelling smoky from a campfire or even getting wet and enjoying it!
My free time is largely spent with my husband and four children who also love being outdoors. We like to spend time in our woods, in our garden and exploring the amazing countryside and coastline of the UK. In my quiet time, I love crafting, crochet and gardening.
In Forest School the children are encouraged to explore their natural surroundings, we promote child led play to develop independent, conservation and team building skills. Our daily routine in the Forest School starts with a morning discussion, this is where we get chance to sit and discuss the safety rules of the forest and how we manage the risks. Continuous provision within a stimulating natural environment. Seasonal focused task to enhance school readiness including tool work and risky play. We are a year-round, all weather, outdoor provision, during the winter months we love to share a story around the fire with a hot chocolate.
Children can explore, discover and connect with nature on their visits to the forest school, which will flow through the changing seasons. Together children, early years practitioners and forest school leaders will become a woodland community. Our journey will be reflected upon by all and guide the development of future visits, directed by the children and their learning needs. As the children venture further into the woodland experience, nurtured by Mother Nature, they will confidently disport within this natural environment. Independently increase their knowledge, creativity and skills. Build resilience as they daily assess risks against their own capability and the benefits for their desire to grow.
